College Catering Equipment Auction

We are delighted to have been appointed by Stratford-upon-Avon College to manage a catering equipment auction on their behalf. The lots include ovens, cookers, freezers, serving counters and much more. The auction bidding ends on 27th July 2022 and the catalogue is now live and can be VIEWED NOW

Working with Colleges, Schools and Universities

We help our education clients raise money by selling their surplus equipment via commercial auctions, lowering their clearance fees and enabling the circular economy of assets in the process.

Every college, school and university has surplus equipment and machinery be it from a merger, refurbishment, department closure, curriculum change or a build-up in storage over the years. We have been helping colleges and universities clear valuable space, lower clearance fees, hit their sustainability objectives and most importantly – generate unexpected revenue, quickly…for over a decade.

We work on projects with a wide range of size and values; whether it’s a few high value redundant assets from a department, an entire building or large-scale multi-site clearance. The usual range of income generated for education partners is £25,000 to £150,000 per auction.

Popular departments and assets sold by our education partners include:

  • Catering & Kitchen equipment
  • Engineering
  • Gym & Fitness
  • Motor vehicles
  • Woodwork
  • Construction
  • Welding
  • Broadcast & Media
  • Technical equipment
  • Entire clearances

How we help organisations with the Asset Circular Economy

According to Wikipedia, a circular economy is “a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible”.

We love a bit of that!

It’s great for the environment, large organisations, SMEs and charities because there are millions of great condition equipment and assets in the world that are sitting there waiting to be reused. We work with organisations of all sizes to sell their surplus equipment and assets to SMEs and charities via online auction, producing ‘Good News’ stories, hitting sustainability objectives and making a profit in the process.

Case Study | Twitter UK

As part of a refurbishment of their UK headquarters, tech giant Twitter engaged our services to manage the sustainable reuse of surplus office furniture, catering appliances and equipment from their Soho offices. A range of SMEs and charities benefitted from this auction, purchasing excellent quality items at great value prices.

Over £300,000 was raised at auction, with over 95% of the purchases made by SMEs, community projects and charities.

How does it work?

We do it for you! Once we’ve worked together to agree an equipment and asset list to sell, we do the rest. We have an experienced in-house team that runs hundreds of auctions every year, so you can leave the project with us and we’ll keep you updated along the way. From valuations to lotting, marketing, collecting payments and organising collections, we’ve got it covered.

Sharing CSR & ESG ‘Good News’ Reuse Stories

At the end of each auction we produce a Project Summary Report for our clients. This document can be shared with internal stakeholders and includes an overview of the project, some auction insights, revenue raised, sustainability achievements and we also collect some buyer stories along the way.

Stuart from Grasmere Farm purchased a cold display counter from our auction at the College of North West London for use at Farmers Markets and County Shows.

Steve from YMCA Lakeside in the Lake District purchased two van loads of accommodation furniture from our Newton Rigg College auction and was happy to share his story with us to promote the reuse of equipment and assets.

That’s how we do it…

Well, there’s a bit more to it than that but we want to keep the word count down! The Circular Economy is a beautiful thing and we are proud to work in an industry that helps play a part in enabling the reuse of equipment and assets every single day. If your organisation would like to learn more about how we can work for you in this regard, just drop us a message and we’ll book in a 30 minute virtual presentation to explain how it works.

Raise Funds by Selling your Surplus Equipment

We reduce or remove clearance costs for factory owners when they need to clear their buildings and storage facilities, in most cases we will normally produce a profit. We do this by selling equipment and machinery via commercial auctions, generating profit in the process and reducing the amount of items that need to be cleared.

Who have we worked with?

It’s important for us to be able to display the engineering, manufacturing, production and storage facilities where we’ve worked on factory clearance and auction projects.

Avoiding Clearance Costs

It almost seems too obvious to sell equipment and machinery rather than paying to have it taken away, but we regularly speak with new clients that are in a stressful position and more often than not, don’t have much time left before they need to exit the building whilst also lacking the labour or resource to manage the sales.

This is where having a one-stop-shop clearance and auction in-house team comes in handy. We manage the valuations, lotting, cataloguing, marketing, payments and collections on behalf of our clients and we can do all of this at short notice.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank NCM Auctions for their support to Sheffield Forgemasters. I would happily recommend them to any future customers.

Emma is extremely passionate about her company and the service that they provide, the whole team are always happy to accommodate customer’s needs and they have demonstrated great flexibility when dealing with collection and transportation.

I had previously never considered using an online auction to dispose of surplus assets but found the service of NCM Auctions outstanding therefore I would not hesitate in using NCM Auctions again in the future.”

Dreamland Margate Case Study

3 min read

Project Overview

Dreamland Margate wanted to reuse their surplus assets in a sustainable manner via the circular economy. The leisure venue engaged the services of NCM Auctions to manage the disposal of surplus catering vans, catering appliances and equipment from their storage facilities. The key outcome for Dreamland was to reuse all assets by selling them to SMEs.

Our NCM Auction Objectives

  • Achieve a financial return for the assets
  • Provide a complete solution with a single point of contact
  • Reuse the assets while supporting a range of downstream SMEs, charities and social enterprises
  • Evidence the social, environmental and economic benefits of partnering with NCM Auctions

How We Did It

Following an initial online meeting to discuss the asset list, we visited Dreamland to complete the lotting and build the online auction catalogue.

The catalogue went live and a four week marketing plan was executed to drive bidders to the auction which included traditional and digital marketing across commercial auction platforms and social media, focusing on a local demographic to reduce carbon emissions. Collections for purchased assets were organised and overseen by NCM Auctions directly from site.

Marketing

Our marketing campaign ran across a number of platforms including Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Email campaigns and Auction Industry advertising platforms. Our marketing approach led to a huge return on investment for us and our client:

Auction views = 34,202

Unique visits = 5,402

Total bidders = 336

Sustainability and the Environment

Over 150 items were purchased by SMEs, whilst over 50 assets were diverted from landfill and given an extended life.

Commercial Catering Equipment Auction

We are delighted to announce that we’ve been appointed by Delaware North to provide sustainably focused asset disposal services for their UK function from March 2022.

Delaware North is a global food service and hospitality company headquartered in Buffalo, New York. The company also operates in the lodging, sporting, airport, gambling, and entertainment industries. The company employs over 55,000 people worldwide and has over $3.2 billion in annual revenues.

What will we do?

We’ll be uplifting and selling surplus catering equipment for Delaware North. This reduces their clearance costs and ensures their equipment gets reused via resale to a range of SMEs across the UK. This will generate funds, save money and achieve sustainability objectives in one simple process, managed professionally by NCM Auctions.

Due to the size and scale of the operation that Delaware North delivers across the UK, they regularly have second-hand commercial catering equipment, assets and furniture that needs to be cleared or disposed of due to refurbishments, new contracts, or equipment life-cycle upgrades.

Key Client Requirements

Our operational Client had some key requirements that needed to be achieved:

  • Reuse the equipment in a sustainable manner (Circular Economy)
  • Organise collections from an NCM Auctions storage facility, as buyer collections couldn’t take place in-situ due to security/access requirements

The first uplift of equipment took place in March, with a second uplift taking place in April. Our Client was very happy with first uplift, so has already organised for a second batch of equipment to be collected.

The online auction catalogue is live now and bidding will end from 1pm on Tuesday 3rd May 2022. You can view the catalogue, bid and register now.

Frenchgate Shopping Centre Case Study

3 min read

Overview

Frenchgate Shopping Centre, based in Doncaster, needed a large retail unit clearing of its assets at short notice. The former Debenhams store held many valuable retail assets and equipment that had been left behind. The assets included catering, retail and restaurant equipment and furniture. In the final weeks before the clearance deadline, NCM Auctions were recommended as a sustainable auction partner for the project by a previous client within Doncaster Council.

Our Objectives

> Work quickly to achieve a high financial return for the surplus assets within the required timelines

> Provide a complete solution with a single point of contact

> Reuse the saleable assets while supporting a range of downstream SMEs, charities and social enterprises

> Evidence the social, environmental and economic benefits of partnering with NCM Auctions

> Demonstrate a new, sustainable clearance and sales channel for Frenchgate Shopping Centre

How we did it

NCM Auctions were appointed just in time to hit the clearance deadline – leaving just ten days to catalogue, market, auction and clear the unit. As the first step, an initial site survey identified over 500 ‘saleable’ assets.

With time constraints so tight, NCM Auctions built the sale catalogue and put together a multi-channel marketing plan for the auction within 2 days. An intensive 4-day campaign was immediately actioned, launching simultaneously across both traditional and digital channels.

Collections for purchased assets were organised and overseen in situ, taking place over a 2 day period to ensure the clearance deadline was hit.

Marketing

Our marketing campaign ran across a number of platforms including Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Youtube, Email campaigns and Auction Industry advertising platforms. Our marketing approach led to a huge return on investment for us and our client:

Impressions = 34,000

Ad Reach = 22,000

Email Reach = 40,000

Result

The auction was simulcast across multiple platforms providing global reach for bidders. The auction lots achieved over 1,500 bids and over 15,000 auction views, with 82% of all lots sold, raising £29,000 at hammer value.

Sustainability

Alongside the financial benefits, it’s important to demonstrate the proven environmental gains and advantages to the local community and economy by reusing surplus assets. The result is a tangible set of outcomes that can be used to help validate corporate, social and environmental responsibilities. Over 10 tonnes of potential waste was diverted from landfill.

Helping Communities

The auction has allowed surplus assets to be repurposed – growing companies, launching new business ventures, helping communities and charities across the UK and beyond. The type of assets and equipment included in the Debenhams store auction are especially important to third sector non-profits. C400 retail assets were purchased to be reused by SMEs.

The Seller

The College of North West London had a large storage facility with many surplus assets they wanted to clear. Rather than pay large clearance fees, the facilities team contacted NCM Auctions to see if it was viable to run an auction, with the aim of raising funds for the surplus assets rather than paying clearance fees for them to be removed. The equipment and assets included engineering machinery, automotive equipment, catering equipment, vehicles and a range of furniture and media equipment.

The Buyer

Grasmere Farm regularly attend local markets, events, shows and fairs across the country providing customers with both cooked hot food and uncooked products, ready to buy and take home. Stuart from Grasmere Farm found our online auction at the College of North West London as he was looking to source a refrigerated display counter to use at their multiple shows and events.

Circular Economy of Assets

We help our clients and buyers activate the circular economy of equipment and assets. Our clients raise funds and negate clearance costs by selling equipment they no longer need, ensuring their reuse in a sustainably responsible manner. Our buyers get to purchase great quality used goods at brilliant prices.

NCM Auctions and Colleges

NCM Auctions has worked with over 100 colleges, universities and schools to sell their surplus assets and equipment where they were about to pay large clearance fees to have them taken away. The benefits of working with NCM Auctions rather than site clearance companies are clear:

  • Reduced or negated clearance costs
  • Funds are raised by selling surplus assets
  • Assets get reused by local SMEs, start-ups, community groups and charities

Arbor City Hotel Case Study

3 min read

Overview

Dominvs Group acquired the Arbor City Hotel and were partnering with Hilton Worldwide to rebrand Arbor City to a Hampton by Hilton, as part of its London focused strategy and growing UK hospitality portfolio. The 115-room, East London hotel held many high‑value assets, soon to be surplus to requirements; including the hotel bar, restaurant, conference facilities and cinema room. Dominvs Group approached NCM Auctions as a partner for the project who could clear the hotel and release value from surplus assets before its redevelopment.

Our Objectives

> Quickly achieve the highest realisation for the disposal and sale of surplus assets

> Provide a complete solution for Dominvs Group with a single point of contact and responsibility

> Dispose of saleable assets while supporting a range of downstream supply chains

> Evidence the social, environmental and economic benefits of partnering with NCM Auctions

> Demonstrate a new clearance and sales channel for Dominvs Group

How we did it

NCM Auctions were appointed late in the process – leaving just ten days to catalogue, market, auction and clear the building. As the first step, an initial site survey identified over 2,000 ‘saleable’ assets. The main asset categories were catering equipment, hotel room furniture, restaurant furniture, plant, fixtures and fittings.

With time constraints so tight, we advised Dominvs Group to focus on 700 hero lots, identified as being the fastest assets to bring to market and achieve maximum returns. NCM Auctions built the sale catalogue and put together a multi-channel marketing plan for the auction.

A 7-day campaign was immediately actioned, launching simultaneously across both traditional and digital channels.

Marketing

Our marketing campaign ran across a number of platforms including Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, Youtube, Email campaigns and Auction Industry advertising platforms. Our marketing approach led to a huge return on investment for us and our client:

Impressions = 71,000

Ad Reach = 53,000

Email Reach = 50,000

Result

The Arbor City Hotel auction was simulcast across multiple platforms providing global reach for bidders. The auction lots achieved over 7,000 bids and over 74,000 auction views, with 82% of all lots sold, raising £86,000 at hammer value.

Sustainability

Alongside the financial benefits, it’s important to demonstrate the proven environmental gains and advantages to the local community and economy by reusing surplus assets. The result is a tangible set of outcomes that can be used to help validate corporate, social and environmental responsibilities. Over 500 tonnes of potential waste was diverted from landfill.

Helping Communities

The auction has allowed surplus assets to be re-purposed – growing companies, launching new business ventures, helping communities and charities across the UK and beyond. The type of assets and equipment included in the Arbor City Hotel auction are especially important to third sector non-profits. C275 assets were purchased to be reused by SMEs.
