J.K. Rowling chair sells at auction for $400,000!
Just a shabby, worn old kitchen chair. Graffiti-ed and tatty. But on closer inspection you'll see that the back of the chair reads: "You may not / find me pretty / but don't judge / on what you see." Follow the words along the seat and it reads: "I wrote / Harry Potter / while sitting / on this chair." Gold lightning bolts adorn the two front legs of the chair. And there's one huge, hand-painted autograph: J.K. Rowling.
Any Potter fan would want it, and one did and paid handsomely for it, $400,000 to be precise! According to Heritage Auctions, the winning bidder wanted to remain anonymous.
In 2002 J.K Rowling donated a chair to a charity auction and it sold for $21,000. The owner of that chair eventually sold it in an online auction in 2009. The winning bidder was Gerald Gray, the CEO of AutoKontrol USA, he bought it for $29,000 and he plans to donate 10% of the winning price to Lumos, which is J.K. Rowling's children's charity.
Who knows, perhaps one day NCM Auctions might have a J.K. Rowling chair up for auction!
